Update exits after a few secnods

Just done repair install (it wouldn't open raw sockets.)
Running I get told to install new Update Software. If I click Install now I get Windows could not search for updates error.
Does this mean that I must do the repair install again?

EDIT: I reboot. Check for updates. After a few seconds the window disappears. The shut-down button shows there are updates to install. If I reboot the cycle repeats. There is no update to install.

If I don't reboot, but try for updates a second time, then it tells me I must install an update to Update. If I click Install, after a few seconds it shows the error message described above. Code 8024DFFE.

EDIT EDIT: Something has happened and it has supplied me with a list of updates to download and install. S, when I thought update had disappeared, it just went to the background, with no ways that I know of to be able to see that. Will explore all settings with update and see if I can find something. I can in any case not check anything until these updates are installed.

Marking as closed. When I have more info/questions I will start a new thread.

Pleasefollow the WindowsUpdate Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MBcompressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file isbelow the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (theforum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

What Security software is currently installed - what other security software has EVER been installed on this machine? Comodo particularly seems to generate this error code.

I read that about Comodo. In the first place, I have been doing Windows updates for years with Comodo installed. In the second Place, I tries with Comodo disabled. Enabled Comodo again because that didn't seem to help.

To be honest, I have no idea why it is working again. If it is. I have to wait until after midnight to download more than 600MB of updates.

Preferablr, I am busy trying to find a download scheduler for Firefox that actually works (start pause resume pause resume pause) over days, because it will take me 3 days to download an updated Windows install disk.

As far as Firefox goes - UNINSTALL it completely then download and install using only the official download site...

I would suggest that you use a good malware cleaner before the reinstall as well.
