Latest Windows update issues - Caution

    "successfully" installed the updates.
Event Viewer requests to run mmc.exe from an unknown publisher (of course it's an important part of the OS)
Running an elevated command prompt (to run SFC /scannow) request to run cmd.exe from an unknown publisher.
    sfc /scannow reports corrupt files

My system image from a week ago is fine so I'll just revert back to that for the time being.
    Very annoying.

    Thanks for the heads-up Michael.

I updated my TestBox and I'm not seeing the issues you see.
Event Viewer works and SFC /scannow finds no issues.

I do see some ODD things, but so far no real problems, everything is working.
    1) When I installed these patch Tuesday updates in Win7, 1 Update was shown as "Not Needed" and not installed (see screen print below).
I don't remember seeing this before.

    2) I keep my systems updated and only hide Bing and Language Pack updates.
Now, Bing updates are not listed in my hidden updates.
Updating a 8.1 OS I kinda see the opposite.
I installed all important updates and after re-booting another important update was available.
That update was not listed/available in the initial PT update.

    So, for me:
W7 listed some update that was not needed.
W8 did not list an update that was needed.

It's my Test Box, I have backups and can restore if I need to.
I'm not touching my Primary Box until I understand better and see what others report...

I suspect that you're not seeing the result of the updates themselves, but of faults in your system which the updates are exposing.

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

I'm now getting Publisher: Unknown for various OS apps following the latest (Dec'14) Patch Tuesday updates.
First noticed when right click on Computer > Manage - CompMgmtLauncher.exe Publisher: Unknown.
Before UAC didn't even kick in when doing that... This has happened on an existing Win 7 Ult x64 PC and a new build PC...

I think camelford's problem is related too. Another thread says it's KB3004394 which is discussed at MS forum here:

I too had problems with kb3004394 on 10 pcs running windows 7 pro sp1. After installing this one, none of the others would install. I thought hmm but after watching the other 4 pcs I had up they all would not install windows updates after I installed this one. I went to the windows update forum that you posted here and seems I am not the only one. So I uninstalled this one, rebooted the machines, hid the update and the rest installed just fine. It stays hidden till Microsoft figures this out. I had no problem with this on windows 8 machines. I am hiding it on all the other machines I maintain also

there is another issue with it. I installed it on one of my own pcs, just to see what would happen. I rebooted and guess what? the icon for the internet had a big red x on it. It was fine before the update. I then uninstalled the update rebooted, all is fine. BE AWARE this update is a doozy. It is now hidden.
