Onscreen Keyboard not working after windows update (11th Dec 2014)

Hi Folks,

I'm running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit OS, service pack 1. Last night I installed the following Windows updates:

KB2920792
KB2952664
KB2920789
KB3004394
KB890830
KB2920790
KB3013126
KB2984942
KB3014406
KB3008923
KB3009736
KB2920793
KB3006121
KB3006625
KB2596927
KB3013410

The issue: When I restarted the system, the onscreen keyboard wouldn't start-up at the log-in screen (also tried to open the OSC at safe-mode log-in, but the same thing happens). In windows explorer, when I tried to open the windows onscreen keyboard, the following message box opened:

C:\Windows\system32\osk.exe, A referral was returned from the server
.

Having Google searched this problem, it seems that in the last 24 hours, lots of people have been posting this problem.

I've checked cryptographic services (in both services.msc & task manager) and the service is running!

Will there be a further update to fix this problem?

Kind regards,

Doug.

KB3004394 has caused this issue among others. Uninstall it and you should get the onscreen keyboard back.

Microsoft has pulled this update from Windows update as well. I expect that it will be reissued when the problems are fixed.

Thanks pbcopter,

The uninstall of KB3004394 fixed the windows on-screen keyboard both from windows explorer and from the start-up page.

Thanks for the info

Doug.

Turn off onscreen keyboard
Windows 7 told me how to turn on the onscreen keyboard but I cant find where it tells me to turn it off. I'd think the logical place to tell me that would be with the turn on instruction. But nope I gotta go to the source of real information Windows 7 forum. Have a nice day.

April 11th Windows 7 Update has been installing for 9 hours...
Hello, I am having a similar problem. When I shut down my computer last night, it displayed the familiar "Do not turn off your computer, installing update X of 6" screen. As usual, I left it to instal and shut down by itself, and I went to bed. When I got up this morning (about 8 hours...

windows 7 onscreen keyboard keeps popping up
Hi. I use the windows 7 osk a lot to enter passwords. I have the icon pinned to my taskbar, and normally the way I use it is I click on the icon in the taskbar when I want the osk to pop up so that I can use it. When I'm finished with it, I click on the minimize button and it returns to its spot...

Onscreen keyboard not functional
Hi there. I am trying to figure out how to use the onscreen keyboard. There are a lot of articles that just explain how to start it, but not how to use it. I know how to access it. And it works when I enter letters in the search box of my browser. However, that's all it does. When I use it with a...

Always show onscreen keyboard?
Hi, I am looking at setting up WMC on my system for a touch screen jukebox. As such there wont be a keyboard attached and when you go to search I was hoping that there would be a way to simply always show the onscreen keyboard without having to press twice inside the search box as many of the...
