Windows not genuine? error 0x8004fe21

I've had this HP computer since about 2010, and I am getting the Windows Genuine error for the last few days. Correlated, but not sure if causal, I did a round of windows important updates recently and never got the error before doing so.

Thoughts?

Hello guinnw, this is probably due to one bad update.

Try downloading this new update and reboot your PC.

(That's the old update, Gator - which should NOT be installed if it isn't already! )


See the notes in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/3004394 - it is not advised to uninstall the update if already installed as it may cause other issues.
MS have since released a new patch designed to resolve the issues caused bythe failed patch..

I get the same problem as well, now - you should be able to install it through Windows Update anyhow if you do a Check For UPdates

Looks like windows pushed 3024777 to my last night, so I installed and restarted. This morning I got the error again (twice so far), so I am not sure we're fixed yet.
