Windows suddenly not genuine (KB3004394 ??)

After installing a bunch of updates (among which the infamous KB3004394) early this week, I started getting the 'windows not genuine' message (my copy is 100% legal). I run the KB3024777 update which is supposed to fix things, but I'm still getting the 'windows not genuine' message. Any ideas?

Here is the MGADiag output:

Maybe a stupid question but, did you restart your PC after installing the update?

If that doesn't work, try uninstalling the KB3024777 update and reinstalling it. Then reboot.

Ensure KB3004394 is not installed.

The only problem in your report is that you have installed a counterfeit copy of Office.

As far as Windows is concerned, another reboot should get rid of the problem, as it appears that the patch KB3024777 has already been installed.

Are you still seeing the non-genuine notification? Is Avast your AV?

With a clean MGADiag report, it's likely that the problem is a race condition, where two or more processes compete for resources.
In this case one of the resources is the Software Protection system - and the other is likely to be your AV.
Avast has been known to cause such problems in the past.
First, try this

1) Switch off the real-time scanning in Avast completely.
2) Reboot and see if you still get the non-genuine notification - if you do, check that Avast is still switched off.

post back with your results, and post the event logs...

Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

Hello Noel, I did as you suggested: disabled Avast file protection, rebooted (after the reboot file protection was still off) and the non-genuine notification is gone (my laptob has been on for a few hours now - also, I re-enabled Avast file protection)!!!
Thanks a million, I definitely owe you a pint

try another reboot or two with the protection switched on - if the notifications return I would suggest uninstalling Avast, running their cleanup tool, and then either reinstalling Avast, or installing MSE instead.

I have the exactly same problem since yesterday. Called Microsoft Windows here in Sweden, and they also told me that this was due to a recent update, and that I should download the latest update ending with 777 - which I did, but the problem prevails, and the message keeps popping up every hour or so... My worry is that I suddenly will not have access to the system, and I depend on it since I work from home. I have also tried to run the WindowsActivationUpdate.exe, but keep getting some error message. I don't have Avast - I have Kaspersky. I used to have Avast, but uninstalled it about a year ago...
