windows update kb2973112 failed code 800b0100

Windows 7 Pro. i7 4790. MSI Gaming 7 board. Corsair SSD for booting Win7. Tried update. Tried SURT. Ran SFC scan with no errors. Crazy frustrated. Wondering if it has to do with the new fandangled msi boot stuff. Even went as far as to DL AVG tune up to see about repairing reg keys, that didn't seem to work either. Downloaded the latest MSI bios file, updated, still no go. Tried several windows "fix it" those didn't work either. Tried manually downloading and running the updated, that just said "failed" after running. I'm officially stuck. Please help.

"Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5.1 on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 for x64-based Systems (KB2973112)

    Installation date: ‎12/‎25/‎2014 1:32 AM

    Installation status: Failed

    Error details: Code 800B0100"

I cannot upload my cbs zip file as it exceeds the file limit here. 7z files not accepted either. :-[

Use Windows own compression - and strip out the older CBSPersist files until the compressed file is below the 8MB limit.

CBS to 7z, then 7z file to zip file. Hopefully that works. Also uploading my SUR file.

Dang you're fast. And on Xmas no less. PS. Happy Holidays.

Attempted to upload via double compression. Let me know if I need to try your way. Cheers!

Something went badly wrong installing one update!
Here's the immediately fixable errors from the CheckSUR report.

    I've uploaded a file - mtyaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder mtyaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folder inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to the folder
    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

    Awesome. Thank you!

Here's the CBS file. Used reg old windows compression like you said. Seemed to work.

Thanks. Downloaded. Followed instructions. I still think this system readiness tool seems odd to me. First PC in over a decade (mac for a while, now I'm back). Every time I run the "checkSUR" as downloaded from Microsoft, it comes up with a "hot fix" and hot fix file name that has nothing to do with my error. Just finished the deal. I'll copy and post the CheckSUR log file now. But I'm thinking I'm doing something wrong, perhaps running the wrong program for the "check sur"...

The CheckSUR tool is a mass of commonly-found-corrupt files from Windows Update logs - and uses the Windows Update procedures to check and fix what it can. It doesn't however actually 'install' anything despite what the popup says

That's got the files fixed OK - now we go for the registry entries....

I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.
