That all looks normal as well.

    Hmm - let's try something...

    Open Windows Explorer (Computer)

    Navigate to the C:\Windows folder

Find the System32 sub-folder and right-click on it

    select Properties

Clear the 'blob' from the 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)' box by clicking on it until it's plain white.

    Click on Apply.

Make sure that the radio button for 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files' is set, and click OK.

Accept the Administrator prompt. After a couple of seconds, you'll be told there is an error - click on the 'Ignore all' button.

Wait for it to finish - it could take a couple of minutes.

OK out, and exit Windows Explorer.

    Reboot twice

    Post a new MGADiag report.

While we are waiting for Noel could you explain something for me.

Have you change hardware or something?
I'm trying to understand how this can be.

    In your report I see
    SYSTEM><Manufacturer>Gigabyte Technology Co
In your system specs I see
    CPU AMD Phenom II x4
    Motherboard MSI NF980-G65

I changed my motherboard from a MSI NF980-G65 to a Gigabyte 990 FXA-UD3 on 12/17, which would give rise to Windows requesting a re-activation. However, I didn't realize that Microsoft had issued a bum update earlier that week that messed with Windows activation on some PCs, so I think that, along with the mobo change and bum update, both contributed to the prevention of activation on my PC.

I have managed to activate Windows now but only through phone activation but not without errors and a questionable phone number. I received the notification to activate Windows but this time I selected phone activation. I received an error but selected 'close' and then 'next'. The next screen should have displayed 'country' but was totally blank - no selections were available. I selected 'next', got an error, selected 'close' and 'next' and got the Activate Windows now screen which had a questionable phone number: +971 4 391 7000 (the Toll-free and SMS numbers were blank).

However, I dialed the number found on Microsoft's web site - 888-352-7140, entered the numbers on the screen, and then entered the numbers the phone source gave me. That successfully finished activation.

Do you know where that +971 number could have come from, why the 'select country' screen had no countries to select, and why there were no toll-free or SMS selections? I ran MalwareBytes, SuperAntiSpyware, and Norton and all came up with no viruses, malware, or rootkits. Where does Windows get the phone numbers for the Activate Windows now screen - downloaded from Microsoft based on country selected?

    Very interesting read.
Thank you for the step by step explanation. Now I have a better understanding.

Could you change Your system specs to match the motherboard you have install.
That information could be useful down the road.

    Happy computing.
