Win7 not genuine error (0x8004fe21) but system says it is

    Hey everybody,
lately my Windows 7 x64 SP1 started showing up the not genuine error message with error code 0x8004fe21. But checking in the system settings itself it says it is genuine. I tried changing the product key, which was possible and successful, but the error message still pops up.

I did a some googling which pointed me towards the issue being related to a windows patch (KB3004394).
But it should be resolved with another patch (KB3024777) which got automatically installed on my system as well.
Now both patches seem to be not installed anymore, but the problem persists and I have no idea how to solve it.
Maybe it's also important to say that I'm using a product key from MS DreamSpark which I obtained via my university.

Here's my MGADiag report, hopefully it tells you more than me ;-)

This may simply be caused by a bad set of Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers -

Installing the Intel Rapid Storage Drivers
try downloading and installing them from here - https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=22194

    (you want the iata_enu.exe download)

Once complete, please reboot twice, then post another MGADiag report.

It's possible that the install may complain about the machine not meeting minimum spec for the drivers - if so, then in fact the drivers are too old. let me know, and I'll post a later variant.

    Good afternoon Noel. Good find.

    Off subject.

How do you get that line to run through the words in your post #2?

Wow, thank you so much for your help!
That definitely could be the solution, I found the corresponding registry entries that point that out!
I'll try to revert my installation to it's original language using the Vistalizator-Tool.

I'll update this once I have verified that it worked

Btw. Congratulations for the offtopic support :P

Actually it is a abbreviation of a basic text smiley :-P ()

    OnTopic:
I used Vistalizator to return my system to its original language (English) but the not genuine message continues to show up :-/
The FAQ to the Vistalizator-Problem stated I should re-validate my system, but as it still claims to be genuine, I wouldn't know how to do that. I'm once more pretty clueless...

The System is showing as genuine now - try validation at www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate using Internet Explorer - it should pass, and get rid of any remaining notifications after a reboot.
