Windows 7: Should I be concerned about failed Cum Security Update for IE9?

Should I be concerned about failed Cum Security Update for IE9?

I installed Win 7 Pro (64-bit) on a brand new HDD today and after installation of hundreds of updates, I reviewed the update success/fail list. All were successful EXCEPT KB3008923, Cumulative Security Update for IE 9.

Error code is: 80242016

Is this something I should be concerned about? IE 11 was installed during the update process, but W7 Update tells me I need this IE9 update when I uninstall it. Re-installing still fails. Does successful install of IE 11 mean this update is not needed?

Ran the SURT and tried re-installing. Same fail. Ran the SFC /SCANNOW as suggested in the Update Forum posting instructions and there appear to be no issues identified.

Any suggestions?

OK - there are no obvious problems showing in either CheckSUR or CBS logs.
The 80242016 error usually associated with connection problems - I suspect in your case that it's an internal problem.

Please post your C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file, and I'll see if it gives me any clues as to what's happening.

I ran the update again since my last post and now I get a successful install of the Cum Security Update for IE11 reported in Update History screen.

Since this is a cum update and the KB # is identical to that for IE9, I assume that the failed IE9 Cum Security Update is irrelevant now. Is this assumption correct?

I am attaching the Windows Update log file as requested, just in case more needs to be done.

The Cumulative update installed was KB3008923 for IE11 - yes, any previous incarnation of that KB number for lower versions of IE would be irrelevant.

Glad things seem to have gotten sorted!

Good luck
