I ran the SFC /SCANNOW command, and unfortunately it said it encountered corrupt files

It should also be mentioned that when I was starting up my computer to run the command, my computer ran another CHKDSK that I was unable to cancel in time. could the CHKDSK have reversed any of the progress we made before?

    attached is my CBS.log file

    thanks again

The fact that CHKDSK ran means that Windows detected file corruption - and attempted to fix it itself... This could indicate failing hardware, so we'd better have a closer look...

    Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
    Save the file as Appevt.evtx
    Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

I'm beginning to suspect that your machine is infected with something nasty

What AV are you using? If it's MSE, then the updates aren't installing- and haven't been for two weeks.

I do use Microsoft Security Essentials... Is this definitely a software problem, or is there any possibility of a hardware failure (like hard drive?) I'm just asking because I may back up all of my important files and reinstall windows all together, but I don't want to do this if I just have to replace my hard drive or something.

    Thanks again:)

The hard drive looks OK to me - there are no bad sectors showing in the event logs, merely the result of improper shutdowns, I think.

Ah ok, thats a relief that my hard drive is ok! I was about to replace it because I figured it was the cause of all of the corrupt files.

Regarding the improper shutdowns, what would qualify as an improper shutdown? And what was the result of these shutdowns- the corrupt files?

    Thanks again:)

An improper shutdown can be hardware or software related.
Hardware causes are power outages caused by either failure or mistakenly switching off the power before the machine has fully shut down. They can also be caused by overheating components, which may suddenly shut down the machine to prevent permanent damage.

Software causes are where a program or the OS itself crashes, leading to incomplete file writes.

hmmm I think my computer falls in the software side of things, it crashes quite often usually with memory_management errors

Sorry if this is not appropriate for the Windows Update subforum, but do you have any idea from looking at the Logs what these crashes are caused from? (Hardware or software?) and if they could be fixed by formatting my hard drive and reinstalling windows?

    Thanks for the help :)

Perhaps it'd be best if you start a new thread in the BSOD section here - https://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/ - make sure that you follow the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions fully

I'll keep an eye on your new thread, and jump in if I can contribute.
