Windows 7: Windows Updates Not Loading -- really confused

I have read that registry errors can sometimes lead to nagging update errors, but be aware of registry cleaning may or may not fix the problem, but it may or may not also cause no ones.
Registry - Backup and Restore

Better to back up in case, but I'm almost out of options. As for me I would have already clean installed or at least restored to my last image

I did a little searching and found this link clean boot option 3 you might take a lookat

Thanks, Berkey -- I think until I can fix the "update the updater", I'm on a loser. Waiting for the "experts" to come and rescue this damsel in distress.

Let's try and get those files uploaded
You need to delete the two oldest CBSPersist files from the compressed folder (the top two in your screenshot) - they aren't likely to contain anything of interest for us now. This should bring the size of the folder down to below the 8MB limit for zip files.
If it still won't upload, try deleting the next oldest and see if it goes now.

Hi, Noel. Thanks. I have now deleted those top two persist files from the CBS zip folder as you advised. Now I have uploaded the CBS file and await to hear what the next step is.

The CheckSUR log is clear - as is the SFC scan - but there are a number of problems showing in the background CBS data...

Let's see if installing the update from the standalone version works for you...

download and save it, then run it.

What happens?

katpat23 I noticed you have and use Ccleaner which is a very good program but I recommend you do not use Ccleaner during this process of getting fixed unless Noel request you to do so.

Noel is one of our experts. Please follow his instruction exactly.

Just something to be aware of. Ccleaner can work at boot. I suggest you make sure it's set like this picture. Check this under
Options/Settings. I don't know if Noel uses Ccleaner to have knowledge of that setting.

From my limited knowledge of this error, it appears that the system is missing two files...
WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-CoreComp~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~fr-FR~7.6.7600.256.cat
WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-CoreComp~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~fr-FR~7.6.7600.256.mum

With luck this will be fairly easy to fix

I've uploaded a file - hznaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all... and save to the default location -
find the extracted files and copy them to the C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages folder.

Now open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands:

DIR C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages\WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-CoreComp*.*
ICACLS C:\Windows\Servicing\Packages\WUClient-SelfUpdate-Core-CoreComp~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~fr-FR~7.6.7600.256.*

...and post the results.

Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

No boot after loading August Windows updates
There were 13 Important Updates this week from Microsoft. After installing them my system would not boot up. I had to run system restore to remove these before solving the problem. I have read that Windows 8.1 has this problem, listing two patches (KB2982791 & KB2975719). These are not listed on...

I'm confused about .NET updates
There were 2 issued in Feb. updates for .NET 4 but there had been a .NET 4.5.1 a few months ago. Why was there a higher number issued before the more current ones or isn't 4.5.1 an upgrade to 4? I don't even know what they mean or if I really need them but did check my list of installed updates...
