Windows Update failures code 80073712 Windows 7 Ultimate x64 new build

    Dear all

I've just rebuilt a machine using an SSD drive and did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Four updates are continually failing, and the update failures seem to cause windows to hang.
The KBs and error codes are:

    kb2979570 - 80073712
    kb2991963 - 80073712
    kb3001554 - 80073712
    kb3014406 - 80073712

    sfc /scannow found no errors.

Here is the CBS log folder. Note that I've deleted all but the most recent cab as the compressed folder was over 45MB otherwise.

Thank you very much in advance for any help you can give.

    I've uploaded a file - azbaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder azbaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folders inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

OK, CheckSur ran quite quickly. The CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file are attached to this post. Looking through the first I can see it fixed all of the issues.

One thing that intrigues me, is why there are Japanese packages, when my installation is an EN-US one, with a Swiss-French keyboard as the only non-english element I can think of.

I'm going to re-run Windows update on those failed KBs now.

Thanks a million and best regards

All versions of windows contain the capability of dealing with multiple languages - it's only the user interface language that changes in the different language editions.

CheckSUR is now clear - with any luck, if you do a new Check for Updates, you'll be able to install the remaining updates.

OK updates ran and installed successfully!

Thanks a lot Noel. This is my first time to these forums and I can see from prior posts that you're a real star here. You really deserve a lot of praise for the help that you've given to people like me.

If I understand what you did, so I might be able to do it myself next time, from the list of failed packages, you were able to download them from somewhere to create the manifest zip you gave me. Where do you find these packages?

Anyway, once again thanks for your help.

    Best regards

If you google the KB numbers, you can find the appropriate download - it's then a case of extracting the relevant files from the download (which is some cases isn't easy!).
In a few cases about the only way to get the necessary files is to actually install the patch on a Virtual Machine, and copy the file from there
