"Inportant Updates" for products I don't have

My Win 7 computers constantly offer Important Updates for products I don't have, like later versions of Office, Visual Studio, etc.

    - Why does it do this?

    - I always uncheck those boses and don't uninstall those updates. Correct?

If you do not want an update, you untick it and then click on it then hide.

    According to this KB article:

an uninstalled program might have left dependent system files on the computer.
So maybe your computer came with programs preinstalled, and didn't uninstall completely later?

Many times, the Visual Studio and Office updates are present because other programs have imported sections of these suites (such as the Word Reader, or the Visual C++ libraries) for use - these require updates the same as the full suite does, to improve security and/or functionality.

It's generally better to install an update for apparently no reason, than not to install one which may either solve a sever problem or prevent a malware attack.
