    Suddenly Getting 0x8004fe22 Error

    Howdy;
    On December 1st, I installed a new HD in my Dell N5030 laptop. I used the OEM Windows 7 Home Premium disk and did a fresh install on the new HD. Installation and updates went fine. Installation of all my software went fine. About a month and a half ago, I switched from Norton Internet Security to Kaspersky Internet Security. Again, no problems during and following installation. Then two days ago, I started experiencing sudden, unexplained system lock-ups (best description that I can give) followed soon by the message that my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine.

    In advance, I appreciate your assistance.

    This error is often caused by use of Registry 'Cleaners'.

    To confirm that the problem is what I think it is, please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt window and post the results.

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S
    REG QUERY HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Classes\TypeLib\{EE574957-4077-4AD6-8658-327C2C86C5AA} /S

    Here are some instructions to make life easier :)
    1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
    2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
    3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

    NoelDP;

    Thank you for the quick response. FYI, I have used CCleaner for years without any problems and only recently was made aware of some of the issues its registry cleaner can cause. Obviously a lesson learned just a wee bit too late. Here are the results which I suspect probably confirms what you thought was wrong.

    Thank you for your time and assistance. It's things like this that cause my friends with Apple products to laugh haughtily at me.

    This results are as expected for this error code.

    I've uploaded a file - sluicom64.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it to your desktop.
    Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
    Save it to the default location
    This should create a file sluicom64.reg

    right-click on the file, and select Merge
    Accept the warnings, - you should then get a 'Success' message.
    Close all windows, and reboot.

    Run another MGADiag report, and post the results.

    Are you sure you accepted all the prompts? No errors?? It looks to me as if you may have attempted the mod without admin access.

    Noel;

    I did just as instructed but it's certainly possible I may have made a miscue. I'll try it again.

    Noel;

    I repeated all the steps as instructed. I got the "Success" message upon completion. I even shut off the computer and then turned it back on for the reboot. For what it's worth, it had been almost 90 minutes and I've yet to see a notice saying my copy of Windows 7 is not genuine which I had been getting almost very 30 minutes or less..

    Here are the MGA Diagnostic results:

    OK - please repeat the instructions from my post #2, and we'll see if anything has changed there.

    Noel;

    I spoke too soon about not getting the "Not Genuine" message, as it happened about a half hour after I sent you the last reply. I repeated all the steps for installing the sluicom64.reg file again. I again got the "success" message upon completion. From what I can see in the MGA Diagnosis, I'm still getting the Ox8004FE22 error.

    Here's the information you requested.

    I very much appreciate your time and patience. I guess I'm one of those people that seems to have things happen that are never simple to resolve.

    Gerry
