From what i gather this update sounds like it's probably worth installing.

Yeah, its definitely not a harmful update, and might help the Microsoft API Direct Show performances.

Was you referring to the part of the log in Run Assessment mediaex input dshow, you're troubleshooting?
Thanks - that is possible - if I could find the error in log.

I am thinking of the popup Video Display - explains task - then that it completed - yet popup does not exit.

In Windows - this is where Stream.sys is :

edit/open the C:/Windows/performance/WinSat/winsat.log and browse by last run, you should be able to trace the error inside the log.

Check again your Power Plan settings and have a look at that thread for infos:

Windows Experience Index not working

Look just in case at your registry if those key are well set in User "Default -PowerSchemes" & "PowerSchemes"

Hit Start=>Run=>type regedit, at prompt run as administrator and browse to those keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Power\User\PowerSchemes

If WEI run, then you do not have to worry.

What does WEI have to do with streaming devices like cameras and projectors?

WEI is using the Microsoft Direct Show API when launching Index Score to evaluate the performances of encoding and decoding, that's why it was discussed here along stream.sys

Yes, I'll give you that but I don't think the Stream.sys driver is used during WEI evaluation. I don't have a video capture card but I do have a TV card and WEI doesn't evaluate that. At least I've never seen it in the test log. Or perhaps I don't understand completely how/where the driver is implemented.

I'll report the attachment link issue to John, but for now if you click on the "Go Advanced" button, the attachment link will then work.

Thanks Shawn.

Added: I reported it from the error window but forgot to include the link then followed with another reply with link. Seems we are crisscrossing email now.

Test. Advanced works.
