I thought about that one too but I don't have a problem with updates. Then I saw the second bullet.

  • This update addresses an issue in which the Windows Update Client displays an out-of-memory error during the scan operation (0x8007000E) on systems that have small amounts of physical RAM.
  • General improvements are made to support upgrades to a later version of Windows.

The first bullet made me wonder since I have 32GB of RAM but the second one was the fatal one.

I've been reading that if you want to upgrade to Windows 10 there will be downloadable ISO's available. I don't know it that's true.

I've kept all Windows 10 upgrade nag updates off my system so far including the Windows Update Client upgrade. Well actually I did originally install that one but it caused a lag in explorer when browsing files which was resloved after removing the update!

This much effort by MS to trick and nag people into upgrading to Win 10 has got to be a sign of desperation on the part of MS to get everyone to upgrade, especially when MS resorts to deception by repeating updates that people have formerly rejected by disguising them as different updates. That, plus the fact that Win 10's forced updates (even the Pro version only allows one to delay updates for a short while) effectively takes away one's ability to stay with an OS for up to a total of ten years or more from when it was released when one doesn't like a newer one is scaring the living snot out of me. Instead of a temporary worry over whether an update has a flaw (something Win 10 Home users will have no defense against, btw), every new update will have all Win 10 users wondering what kind of fresh hell may this one be. Will older hardware and software become obsolete sooner (it could become a nightmare for hardware and software developers to keep up with the changes)? Will windows suddenly become cloud based, not unrealistic now that Nutella (sic), the former head of Cloud Development, is CEO? Users won't even know ahead of time that the update is coming since updates will happen at any time. I'm good to 01/14/2020 but I'm worried snotless over what I'm going to do after that but, unless something changes (and I'm not holding my breath), I will be showing MS the door.

About the only advantage I see in the GWX updates is that it will analyze your system for compatibility with W10 before actually downloading it. I suspect there must be a download manager built in also. I can't imagine (for me) having 2-3 hours of "do nothing else" time while my PC is turned on. Those that leave their PC on 24/7 it's probably a non-issue though.

The issue for me is that I flat don't like W8 and W10 just won't work for this PC. The next build or buy may be a different story.
