I just remembered - I backup my registry each and every time I run a cleaner, and have done so for many years. I have backups from 2011 even, if that would help.

Generally I dislike using registry backups except 'in extremis' as the point of the registry is that it reflects the current software (this is where System Restore is so powerful, as it keeps both registry and files in step). I certainly wouldn't dare use a registry from more than a month ago!

    Ok. I'll wait!

Extra info: I tried to use system restore before - it wouldn't restore to a point before all this was occurring.

Let's a have a closer look at another part of the registry...

    1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type regedit
    2. When you see regedit on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
    3. When regedit opens, using the left pane, navigate to the following registry key and select it by clicking on it once.

      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide

    4. Once selected, click File > Export....
    5. Change the Save as type: to Registry Hive Files (*.*)
    6. Name this file SideBySide (with no file extension) and save it to your Desktop.

Once done please upload this file via Dropbox or One Drive and post a link.
