Activation issue/failure to update

Like everybody else, I'm stumped. This apparently started with updates on 12/14

If KB3004394 is installed, uninstall it, and reboot twice.
Do a Check for Updates, and install the new version of KB3004394, and any other updates.
reboot again, and run a new MGADiag report, and post it.

IN that case, try this...
Please run the following commands in an Elevated Command Prompt

NET STOP CRYPTSVC
REN C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CATROOT2 CATROOT2OLD
NET START CRYPTSVC

once complete, leave the system alone for at least an hour to rebuild the database, then reboot, and run another MGADiag report and post the results.

Well...I spent something like 8 hours with two different MS level tech 2 guys. The first one ran all of the standard diagnostics and a few others (Tweaking)...and eventually downloaded a new .iso file and installed it. So far so good. Then it choked on installing 195 updates. (I saved the .iso file on an external drive...you never know!)

So back to support..the 2nd guy ran all of the same diagnostics and watched as all of the updates installed like clockwork. He also generated a one-time-only key #, since we were dealing with oem-installed software.

Fingers crossed that they resolved it. It's my wife's machine, so I'm sure I'll hear about it if it starts doing odd things again.I asked the 2nd guy what was causing the original problem, and he said something about corrupted updates. Huh. Imagine that!

The laptop had similar problems, but my IT friend just scrubbed the drive and we started from scratch. She had a key # from a scrapped machine, so this one is good to go as well.

Hopefully Win10 will be an improvement.

And thanks to the guys here for their suggestions. This place provides really, really outstanding help when it comes to glitch-fixing.
