    Anytime Upgrades Nio More ?


    Did I miss an announcement about MS ending Anytime Upgrades ? Did a build back in late May for a SOHO network (10 machines). Thought was, since user rarely needs network resources while most users are active, no need for Pro and used Win 7 Home (OEM).... in last 3 months was maybe 2 "too many users" messages but no bother. However, due to some high end printers and plotters and CAD workstations, letting WU install drivers is against office policy due to past disasters.

    With Win10 doing the Windows Updates force feeding on Home Version, and it already causing problems

    Seemed like a good idea to kill the proverbial 2 birds and do the anytime upgrade thing. No go,

    1. It seems that MS has terminated this option....says can't do online and gives no information on how to do otherwise.

    2. Given the typical $90 cost, one the update is done, assuming it can be, is the OEM version after the anytime upgrade now a retail version ?

    MS stopped selling Anytime Upgrades for Windows 7 the day that they released Windows 8.
    Limited stocks were available at retail outlets but quickly ran out.

    An (activated) Anytime Upgrade to Windows 7 Pro as I understand it would qualify for upgrade to Windows 10 Pro.

    OTH, an upgrade from Windows 7 Home premium to Windows 10 (base) would qualify for upgrade to Windows 10 Pro, also - via whatever route MS open for such upgrades (probably an add-on similar to the one for Windows 8/8.1).

    Note that ALL upgrades subsume the license from which it upgraded - meaning that license is no longer available for use in other machines or installations (although it can be used to replace the upgraded install)

There are countless reasons not to do an upgrade from a beta OS to a beta OS but people seem to think it's still ok. I can't stress how bad upgrading these beta versions is. Stop doing it, or risk losing or corrupting our data. Don't believe me, just ask "cw-kid" over at "thegreenbutton"...
