    Windows update not working. Win7 64bit

    Recently I learned of the free upgrade to windows 10. I was supposed to click on an icon in the task bar that did not appear. I was instructed to check to see if my Window updates were up to date. I went to windows update and it did not function. I followed the update steps listed in the post and had the following results;
    Ran SURT, it successfully completed
    ran sfc/scannow as Admin, got the following error: 'Windows Resource protection could not perform the requested operation.
    Tried windows update, got error 80070246
    CBS Folder (zipped) is 36 MB and will not upload. Is there something in the folder that is needed specifically? There are some big .cab files in there. I've zipped and attached the CBS.log file

    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    I don't know when update stopped working as I haven't checked it in sometime. Perhaps two months. The update history shows updates to MSIE and not much else.
    I have used CCleaner to clean my registry regularly but never saw any bad effects.

    It looks to me like you have registry corruption.
    I need to have a look at your COMPONENTS registry hive

    Please copy the C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS file (no extension) to your desktop and then compress it - upload the compressed file to your favoured fileshare site (preferably Dropbox or OneDrive) and post a link.

    Please start a NEW thread of your won, and provide the logs - your issue is NOT the same as the original one.
