I'll post some instructions to correct these errors when I can get to them - hopefully tomorrow.
That is correct. as I said before he is been having this issue for almost 2 years now
Shall we proceed with your to8aa.zip, or shall I wait until your further feedback?

Yes please do the to8aa repairs - these errors are unrelated.

We started your repair, but he can't get into the Advanced Boot Menu... pressing F8 all the time during boot does nothing and so it continues to normal boot.
(His computer is from ASRock, perhaps it has another key for it)

EDIT: Nevermind, it worked this time

Ok, we did everything you said and ran SFC /scannow again. The prompt said that no corrupted files have been found (because your to8aa fixed his notepad.exe issue, as far as I can tell from the repair prompt)
You can find the new CBS.log in this message.

Yep - the fix appears to have done exactly what it was supposed to do

I'm not going to get to the other problem tonight - it's a fairly complex instruction-set, and I don't want to get it wrong.

I'll get back to you on that as soon as I can.

Here's a link (it probably explains things better than I can)

The updates you need to uninstall are

Ok, we followed the steps of the link, uninstalled the 3 updates with success and then we ran the System Update Readiness tool again. (first it failed because we already restored the date back to today, but it worked again when we put the PC time around 2013)
So the update readiness tool did what it's supposed to do, but still no improvement over the situation, Windows Update Error 8024402C still keeps appearing.
The CheckSur log file that came with it is quite short:

Reset the time back to current and run the CheckSUR again - I need to see the results of that run.

Ok, we ran it again with the current time set. The log files don't seem to differ a lot from previous..

They shouldn't, with those files uninstalled

That looks fine now - and with any luck WIndows Update will now work.
Do a Check for Updates, and install those two updates when/if they re-appear - then try the rest.
