Rats! - that's the easy fix I was hoping for, foiled .

I'll have to see what I can find in the Event Logs...
Open Event Viewer
click on the Windows logs entry in the left pane to expand it.
Now click on the Application entry - wait while it loads.
Click on 'File' in the menu bar and select Save...
Save the file as Appevt.evtx
Repeat for the System log
then zip both, and upload them.

Many thanks for your help but I think the best thing is to reinstall Windows 7.

Seems rather extreme - but it's your machine.

Good luck with it.

I finally solved the upgrade problem . I went to website https://www.winhelp.us/reinstall-windows-update.html and downloaded Fix-it 50202 and that solved the problem. Prior to that I had tried other Fix-it downloads to no avail but running the 50202 solved whatever the problem was.
Again thanks for the help.

Well done!
I though Fixit 50202 had been withdrawn or I might have suggested it.

Thanks for letting us know.
