Hanging problem in latest Windows 7 Professional updates

Hi!
Today, when I switched ON my laptop, windows (windows 7 professional 64 bit) started updating.

More than two hours have passed, it is still showing 'Configuring Windows Update, 70% complete, Do not turn off your computer' .

Pls guide about the safe way to come out of this problem, without losing my data.

Best regards

Depending on exactly which updates are involved, 2 hours is not excessive.
Was Service Pack 1 one of the updates?

give it another hour or so, and if it's not moved at all, you may have to power-off the machine, and hope that the install either completes next time around, or backs out gracefully.
If not, then you should be offered the option next time around to do a Startup repair - which should work.

Hi, Thanks for the guidance.

After waiting for four hours, I manually switched OFF the laptop and switched it ON. Thankfully, it worked.

Now, I see the installation status of 13 updates as FAILED (1 recommended and 12 important). The error code is Code 80070643.

The failed updates are : KB3064209, KB3075851, KB3079757, KB3046017, KB3078601, KB3076895, KB3076949, KB3078071, KB3060716, KB3075220, KB3071756, KB3072305 (Important), KB2952664 (Recommended)

I tried locating error code 80070643, but could not make any sense.

Can you pls guide, if the failures of any update affect the effectiveness of subsequent updates, how critical are IMPORTANT updates generally, and how can I install these FAILED updates.

Best regards

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file
