Win10 blocking security updates

Specs: Compaq Presario C62 laptop - purchased 2011
3 GB ram - 300 gb HD (mostly unused)
Malwarebytes, Malware Anti-exploit and BitDefender - all up to date
I ran a check disk yesterday and it came up without any issues. Is there somewhere that has a log file that I can see the results of this more in depth. The results seem to come up quickly and I don't know where to go to find them.
My problem: Win10 update has parked itself in the windows update section and will not allow me to update my security files unless I start its download. I did a system restore back to Jul 22 thinking that would get rid of it but to no avail. It is still in my update section. I do not want to put this on my system yet as everyone says might be better to wait for bugs to work out. I cannot get online without all of these security updates so must do something to recover the pc.
My question: Should I do a system recovery or a factory reset or are they the same? I can boot into windows 7 without a problem. I am a middle pc user - not newbie but not advanced either so this all kind of make me nervous....Thanks in advance for any thoughts or help.

Hi - thanks for looking. All is straightened out now as I did a factory reset and wiped out the 10 which ws not installed. It just wanted to be - I did try to install it to get around its blocking of my wu but it failed in installation. Thanks again.

Ok mate I personally don't think until someone convinces me that 10 is better I shall be using it much - 7 is just so simple to use and I like it that way.

So if you are of the same mind then this is good to make it better

Look for what it is worth I am not overly keen on what I have seen 10 doing - 7 is so much simpler to use and to be honest I don't like some of the features like no choice in what updates one can install to name but one

So if you are happy with 7 stay with it and like myself until they can prove to me that 10 is so much better and easy to use and personally that is going to be a long time coming.

If you still want to try 10 why not do what I did and clone the 7 drive and swap in the clone and install 10 then you can always go back to the new install,

In the meantime have a look at this to make 7 better if you do not mind losing some of the "bling" like transparency

Copy of Windows 7 Not Genuine, Blocking Updates?
Ultimately I am trying to figure out why IE 11 won't install as it is standing between me and watching GoT via Roku, but there are a few other Windows updates that won't install either, and after some reading I wonder if Windows not being "genuine" is the culprit. The laptop is 5+ years old, I...

(avg or) win 7 security blocking program installs+updates
I tried installing admuncher and update to Acrobat Pro 8.0. With Acrobat, when I select update from the help menu nothing happens. I figure this must be avg av software, or a win 7 security feature that is blocking program installs+updates (my guess it is more likely Win 7). I don't know where to...
