Back to 7 Problem

Today I went back to Windows 7 from 10. A number of issues led to this decision which are not for this thread. If you're interested in why email me.

Since going back to 7 Windows Update appears broken. I click to check for updates and it searches (and searches) and never stops searching. I have to manually exit. I still have the "your update to Win 10 is ready. I'm just curious is anyone else is having an issue before I attempt to repair windows update?
Comments or Flames welcome.
Tnx,
Dusty

What happens if you let the search continue overnight?

If these steps fail to fix the issue...
Windows Update - Reset
...then follow the posting instructions:

...and wait on NoelDP

Tell ya what, I'll let you know in the morning. I'll set it up when I get ready to call it quits for the evening. I'll post here after a couple of cups of coffee <grin>
Thx,
Dusty

You can sleep - but the computer can't :-)

I just wonder what will happen. The update servers have been busy.

Thanks for giving it a try.

I don't know how long it took but after a couple of hours it had stopped searching. The only update offered was the upgrade to 10. I still have the win 10 icon in the tray. Now that I've tried 10 for about 3 weeks and decided to keep 7 how do I get rid of all the upgrade stuff? Lol, I knew Microsoft wasn't going to make it that easy.

After a bit of exploration I find 7 win 7 updates and 8 or 10 MS Office updates but I can't install any of them because the win 10 upgrade owns the update page. I can tell this is about to get very interesting. <sigh>
Tnx,
Dusty

At least it stopped on its own :-)

Maybe this will help:
How to get rid of the 'Your upgrade to Windows 10 is ready' lock | InfoWorld

In step #4, I would run Disk Cleanup from the start menu so that you can right-click on the shortcut and run as admin. that will scan scanning the drive twice and it will let you clean up Windows Update files. Take note of how much free space you have on the OS drive before and after the cleanup.

Let's have a look at some actual data...
we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool (download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.x

ALSO
Please download the Farbar Service Scanner from

Farbar Service Scanner Download

Right-click on the saved file and select 'Run as Administrator', and tick all the options, then click on the Scan button - copy and paste the report to your response.

After a couple hours research I found how to fix this in 4 (not-so-easy) steps. I got everything back working and the update to 10 hidden. Everything is working. I could post specific "how to" if desired. The ONLY thing left is the "update to win 10" icon is still in the system tray. Just an annoyance but I'll work on that later today. For now I have about 20 or so updates to install.
Tnx,
Dusty

I think that there are a few threads detailing W10 offer removal. I just could not find any of them yesterday. If you get really bored, make a tutorial :-)

Lol, I'm not a tech writer by any stretch of the imagination but I have researched and dabbled with this for a few hours. Basically it's find and hide the "Upgrade to win 10" in Windows Update and hide it. Then uninstall KB3035583 to get rid of the notification in the system tray. Not that time consuming after it's figured out. Thanks for all the guidance through this.
