new install Windows 7 sp1 stuck checking updates

    To whomever can help:

I was given a computer for my daughter. It was JUST installed with Windows 7 home Premium sp1 when we got it. When I have tried to check for updates, it gets stuck- even if I leave it for hours & hours, it still continues to "check for updates" (& I have very fast internet). I have ran microsofts windows update troubleshooter, but it still does the same thing. I have ran the things listed in the sticky needed to be done for problems with windows update, with no issues. Please help.

Thank you for your time & assistance.

Noel is our expert on Windows 7 Updates and he is off line.

    Just a note:
I just did a Clean Install yesterday and it took 5 hours to download and install Updates. Their will be over 200 of them.
The bar that goes across the screen lies. I watch my router activity light to see if things are being downloaded.

Thanks for the info but I dont know how I could tell by the router because there's more than just this on it. I expected it to take awhile to check, but after about 15 hours, considering I have a very fast connection, I figured itd be done checking. :)

When others are using the same ISP through a router things will slow down even more.

This model was originally only with Vista, probobly why your having troubles,
NOT SURE but i suspect your going to have to re-install Vista and then Upgrade as you did before.

Noel will comfirm i expect so please wait for his input.
