Unable to check for updates on Windows 7

When I try to run the Window Update feature it only results in error code 8007370A. Trying to follow the microsoft troubleshooting guide was fruitless as I could not solve the problem. After countless attempts I found your website and I'm now using it and I would greatly appreciate any help that you could provide. So, following your 'Update Posting instructions', I have installed the SURT on my desktop, run the SFC SCAN as admin which also failed (“Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation”), and attached the CBS.zip file from step 4 to this posting. (I think)

I've uploaded a file - tbeaa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
Please download and save it.
Right-click on the downloaded file, and select Extract all…
Extract to the default location - which will create a new folder tbeaa in the same place.
Open this folder - there should be one folders inside it (Manifests)

Copy the content of the manifests folder (.manifest files) into this folder:

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

Now run the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Post the new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Google chrome labelled as malicious and blocked the zip file that you posted for download. Before I recover it I wanted to verify that it hadn't been hacked??

It's perfectly OK - for some reason, Google doesn't like people downloading files from MS sites

I recovered the blocked file, right-clicked and extracted all to the default location. It created the new folder 'tbeaa' however there was only one folder in it, Manifests. I thought perhaps something got lost during recover so I deleted all and repeated the process with the same results ... no 'Packages' folder only the 'Manifests' folder was there. ??

No - the file is OK, but I forgot to modify the post accordingly

You can just use the Manifests part and run CheckSUR again .

Sorry about that!

I attempted to copy the contents of the 'manifest' folder into C:\windows\temp\checksur\winsxs\manifests folder but was denied access at C:\windows\temp. To gain access, I was directed to the security tab but all further actions were unsuccessful; please advise.

Strange - perhaps your AV is inhibiting it?

Let's see what the permissions are like...

Open an Elevated COmmand Prompt, and run the following commands

ICACLS C:\Windows\Temp
ICACLS C:\windows\temp\checksur

post the results...
Here are some instructions to make life easier
1) To open an Elevated Command Prompt Window (the ECP window), click on Start, All Programs, Accessories – then right-click on Command Prompt, and select Run as Administrator. Accept the UAC prompt.
2) To run the commands easier, highlight the block of commands, and right-click on the highlight – select Copy. In the CP Window, click on the black/white icon at top left – select Paste. The commands will run but may not complete the last command, so hit the Enter Key once.
3) To copy the results... click on the Black/White icon in the top left, and select Edit... 'Select All', and hit the Enter key - then use Ctrl+V or r-click+Paste to paste it into your response.

Do you do step 2 one ICACLS command at a time? or both together or what? a little confused here.
