where are my windows update notifications?

Is this happening to anyone else? I know it is happening to at least one other person who uses a different virus scanning program than I do. I use ESET which has started notifying me when Microsoft has its monthly Windows updates ready. ESET offers a way to download and install these but no way to make choices. I must go elsewhere to get that form. Meanwhile, I am getting no notifications from Microsoft. For three months I've not received a notice from MS.

Now, today, there is more. ESET notified me of an available update. When I looked, it said it was Dell Data Safe Local Backup. Google says that is Dell reverting some program to its original version. However, when I opened "read more", it turned out to be Microsoft's regular monthly update. Why would Dell be offering me Microsoft's updates under a different title being described as something different?

Both of those above-described offers include Windows 10 with no way to say "no thanks" to it.

Please, I know I am "backward" when it comes to understanding the intricacies of computers but I do appreciate simple answers. Tell me what is going on here and what I can do about it other than just quit computers. Thank you.

    Hi,
    You might try this,
Also have you tried to check for updates manually ?

Thank you. That is what I am doing now - checking for updates manually. However, I still want to know why the notifications are not coming since ESET started notifying me. If that sounds picayunish, it is not. MS Windows notifications give me a correct form to use. ESET does not. When someone changes how my computer works without telling me anything about it, I do rather wonder. Apparently something new is going on here and it bothers me. Is that silly? Don't we have to stay on guard?

Sorry if I'm a problem. I only want an explanation.

Simple answer - turn off ESET notifications?
Check their documentation, but it should I believe revert the control to WU.

I'm not using ESET and My WU notifications have disappeared after being up for a day or two for the past two or three months. I have to manually bring them up come Saturday when I normally run them.

Thank you, Lady Fitzgerald. You are the third person to say theirs have disappeared. So this is apparently a new way of doing. Wouldn't you think they'd tell us - especially when we ask? I've asked ESET twice and gotten nothing more than "just another of our little services".

Noel DT, yes, I can turn off ESET's notification. They even told me how. But I feared I'd not revert to Windows Update. Then I'd be left with no reminder at all.

Well, thank you both. I'll try to cope.

So, each month when updates are about due, I can come here for reviews of them. That is good. I'll try to remember that.

I'd still like to know what is going on between the antivirus programmers and Microsoft that causes this but I guess they aren't going to tell us. Seems to me that the more we know, the more we are able to handle our own problems. This apparent secrecy doesn't seem right. Oh well. Thanks to you all.
