Windows updated rest itself, and show error 0C80001FE

    Hi there

    I have strange issue here

Around two days ago Win update sort of rest itself (it remember my settings but removed all of my updates history and the updates I hide)

So I tried to tell it to search for updates but saw that it just either search forever or either show error 0C80001FE

I looked around the net and tried to fix it myself

I tried to make this reg file:

    net stop wuauserv
    cd %systemroot%
    ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    net start wuauserv

    from this page

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/958048

and Tried Brink Windows Update Reset tutorial

    (tried OPTION TWO)

Win update still act the same and I afraid I break anything so I system restore to a few hours before I done it, didn't saw any change in the files and still saw that the files from after I used the regs are still there

I saw the reg file back up my SoftwareDistribution folder and named it as "SoftwareDistribution.old"

I want to go back to the default settings I had but I don't sure if it going to help after Brink reg changed all winU's reg files

Can I still replace the folder files with the SoftwareDistribution.old ones in safe mod and nothing will break?

Also anyone have any idea how I can fix it? I'm not fan of MS's Fix it tool
they usually stupid tools that break more stuff than fixing anything
I can't even find what they fix because they don't write it anywhere

is MS's tool from this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058
ONLY fix win update? and what files it change and mess with it?

If you have any other ideas how to fix it please tell me, I will run sfc /verifyonly for now and post log later

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data

If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons)

Please also post the C:\Windows\windowsudpate.log file

    sfc end with no errors
does it still leave now log if there's no error? I upload it anyway (if you see error in the CBS log don't worry, I run other scan earlier which gave me error because I disable MS DTV-DVD Video decoder with app, I add it back and no errors again, I do it for years and it safe)

I added the winU log, I see there many errors

Do I have to install that SURT tool? I really paranoid when it come to unknown app even when it MS, what the tool does btw?

The CheckSUR tool doesn't actually install anything - even if it says it does It is merely a repository of the most-often found corrupted files in WIndows , which it uses to replace any corruptions found in the system (when it can!)

There's almost no data in the CBS.log file - please post the latest CBSPersist cab file (you'll have to zip it first, since the forum won't accept CAB files)

You meant to the last CbsPersist file right? the cab files is being detect as a rar in my system but when I rar it I see that it actually cab file, I also added the DeepClean log... in case you need it

If the CheckSUR tool just does that then I may give it a go with your permission after you will read the logs

I just wondering though.... can you tell the tool to just check the stuff you want? like in this case just to scan and fix WinU only? or it just do it to the entire system and fix stuff without asking you? I have codecs and more stuff on my pc and I scared to see it delete and replace stuff when I launch it

Edit I was able to make WINU to work again by using some MS tool several times

It searching for updates really slow though even after I cleared the caches, it can take around 40 mins for it to find the updates while in the past it was less than a minute and 5-8 mins in really worse case, any chance you know how I can fix it?

Also if you can please check the files I sent you anyway, You may be able to find what caused the issue thanks to that in the first place

Please run the CheckSUR - it does mostly look at problems involving updates, but also checks the originally -installed Windows files.

Installing the latest batch of updates should help with the slow checking for updates - it include an improved algorithm.
There are no errors in the SFC and none in the background data of that CBSPersist file.

    Sorry for the delay
if WU works then I see no reason to try the CheckSUR as it not only check WU but can change files in the entire system correct?

What the updates that improve WU though? can you tell me their names? I don't love to install all of MS updates since from my experience some can break the stability of my OS
(unless I install them all after clear format and even then there's the famous issue that start since 2010 which make your entire OS to work really slow after update using WU, the only way to fix it is to either delete one random update or do system restore to random point without even the need to delete the updates you just installed, strange issue with strange solution indeed but it happened to me on 3 different machines and to all who I know in RL for years so I guess it not just me..)

or just break other stuff for "security" reasons (like the gadgets)

s I said earlier - CheckSUR does NOT install anything.
It merely checks the integrity or what's already installed, and attempts to fix any problems it finds.
