    Windows 7 update error 80246008 - since 08/13/2015

    NoeIDP,

    Thanks for replying, I do appreciate it !!!

    ** Do you want me to keep using the save Title? Or, would it be better to change it for each reply I am posting?

    I downloaded the FRST and checked ALL of the check boxes and ran a FULL scan.

    Attached are the logs ( not zipped ) from the run.

    ?? One thing I am curious..
    - do you think a "fix" is just on horizon ??
    * OR *
    - should I look at removing the HDD from the laptop, install it in an external case, copy off ALL of the files to a different HDD, re-install back in the laptop, perform a full system rebuild (from the Toshiba System Recovery DVDs), take back out, put back into the external case, copy the files back over the "rebuilt" HDD?

    If I were to do this, what I am most curious about is:
    - if everything is "cataloged / logged" under the C:\desktop\user folder should it have everything I would need after the rebuild (LESS the installed programs)???

    Make sense?!

    I ask for a simple FSS log - and get a full-blown FRST log?

    PLEASE follow the instructions given - they are there for a reason.

    Windows 7 update error 80246008 - since 08/13/2015

    NoeIDP,

    I am so very sorry. I got confused on what to download & run and I see what I did wrong. I downloaded and ran the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (somehow I got confused on what to download).

    I have downloaded the FSS tool, will run and attach the results to this message.

    No problem
    For some reason the BITS service has been set to Demand start -
    Code:
    Windows Update:
    ============
    BITS Service is not running. Checking service configuration:
    The start type of BITS service is set to Demand. The default start type is Auto.
    The ImagePath of BITS service is OK.
    The ServiceDll of BITS service is OK.
    Please open an Elevated COmmand Prompt, and run the following command...

    SC config BITS start= delayed-auto

    (note the spaces!)

    then close the window and reboot.

    This almost certainly won't cure the problem, but at least we'll then have the settings where we need them to have any hope of a solution.

    Once rebooted, post the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file, and a new set of Event logs.

    You have Comodo installed as AV - and it's not loading properly.
    Please uninstall it - at least temporarily - and replace it with MSE.

    You appear also to have at least residues from Kaspersky and AVG installed - you need to run their removal programs to get rid of the dregs...

    http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities
    Service articles
    reboot after each- then...
    After the reboot, open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following command

    NETSH WINSOCK RESET

    You'll be advised to reboot - do so.

    post a new set of event logs, and windowsupdate.log

    Comodo is still hanging on in there
    Open Device Manager
    Click on View > Show hidden Devices
    With luck, you'll find an entry for the Comodo (something or other) that's been tagged with either a yellow triangle or a red cross over its icon.
    Right-click on it, and select Uninstall. Accept the warnings/messages and once complete, reboot again.
    Go back into Device Manager, and check that the entry is still gone, then try Windows Update again, and post the new windowsupdate.log file

    Windows 7 update error 80246008 - since 08/13/2015

    1) Opened Device Manager

    2) Showed Hidden Devices
    >>> NO devices have a yellow "/\" or a red "+" on them

    >>> Showing Hidden Devices only brings into the tree the "Non-Plug and Play Drivers"

    >>> None of these "devices" have a yellow "/\" or a red "+" on them

    >>> NOTHING stood out or described as being associated with Comodo...

    Did any of the "Non-Plug & Play Devices" stand out to you?
    >>> I see these that seem odd to me:

    ***> avgtp; Device Instance Path: "ROOT\Legacy_AVGTP\0000"; Class icon path: "%SystemRoot%\System32\setupapi.dll,-19;
    Driver Files: "\??\C:\windows\system32\drivers\avgtpx64.sys"; Device is STARTED; Startup type is SYSTEM

    ***> hagel technologies DU Meter traffic accounting driver; Device is STOPPED; Startup type is DEMAND; Class icon path: "same as avgtp";

    ***> MFE_RR; "same basic info as above"

    ***> SASDIFSV; Driver Files: "\??\c:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASDIFSV.SYS"; Device is STARTED; Startup type is SYSTEM;
    ( the FREE version is installed on the laptop - but NOT setup for the 30-day trial )

    ***> SASKUTIL; Driver Files: "\??\c:\Program Files\SUPERAntiSpyware\SASKUTIL64.SYS"; Device is STARTED; Startup type is SYSTEM;

    ***> Security Driver; Driver Files: "c:\windows\system32\drivers\secdrv.sys"; Provider: "Macrovision Corporation, Macrovision Europe (c) 2006 Macrovision Corporation"; Device is STARTED; Startup type is AUTOMATIC; Device Description "Security Driver";

    ***> TDEIO; Device is STOPPED; Startup type is DEMAND;

    3) To see devices "Non Present Devices in Device Manager", I did the following:
    - Control Panel >> Systems Page >> Clicked Advanced Settings (on the left)
    - Clicked "Environment Variables"
    - Clicked "New" in the lower System Variables Section
    - Entered devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices for the Variable Name

    NoeIDP,

    I was wondering if you have reviewed my "verbose" results from the last iteration for my Toshiba Laptop with Win 7 SP1 that will not update anything...

    I hope I did not bombard you with far too much detail.

    Still needing your expertise.
