How to get rid of that Windows 10 nag and update

I have been through the tutorials and the updates and the update for the upgrade to 10 - which I think is KB3035583 is sitting there and I cannot find any way to get rid of it and I am beginning to think the only way is a clean install and I truly do not want to go there again.

Any ideas please because this is so frustrating.

Yep Ken I saw that thread some time ago and even then couldn't work out how to find and destroy that rotten update. I have a list of failed ones but there is no chronological order to go by and trawling through the updates which in lot of cases are very ambiguous in what they are for is tedious at best and really annoying to have to do that.

PS pic is of my update history and nothing will uninstall it or restore back to a past point

Hmm just found this - I quite like this bloke and at least if the update is not gone at least the icon is gone and the process closed

    Hi,
Yep you will need to kill the process first before uninstalling the update,
Callender's list still should be used to get rid of all of the updates for win-10,
Then most importantly review future updates before they download and install

No mate but I have used the fixes in that Youtube to stop the process and get rid of that icon - however what he says about renaming that GWX as in this
You must disable GWX.exe services/processes from within task manager
You must rename GWX folder in system32 and syswow64
you must go into windows updates and right click the update and select Hide

you must delete $Windows.~BT folder (and / if) $Windows.~WS folder
I cannot do because it is not listed.

Now it is listed in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft but any attempt at deleting it fails - I tried. So I am guessing the only way out of this hell hole is a clean install and just watch for that update.

I think Microsoft have pulled a real swifty on us all and I for one am pretty damn mad about their underhand tactics because they have obviously made it so it cannot be removed form the registry

    Hi,
Well I just installed on my new build mate and the first trick is to change the windows update settings as soon as you get to your desktop,
These settings separate all of the updates nicely and all I did at first is download and install only Important updates after of course scrolling through them for any reclassified ones which M$ seems to do a lot

After loading Important ones I scrolled through the list of optional for the known ones and unchecked them

You could reset the update system since you have had many driver issues in the past,

    Hi,
The file or folder you can't find might be a protected system location which might need to be shown in folder and search options ?

Yes mate that's how I have mine set up but unless it specifically says ie Windows 10 upgrade for 7 then I am clueless - well not clueless but it really is in the wording/symantecs. Ok if it is a security UD for Office etc etc but that one was ambiguous and the other thing some updates slip through in the middle of a batch of them and makes it like picking the blond haired five foot nine fellow out of a crowd of a hundred blond five foot ten fellows.

I still think it is wrong of Microsoft to impose their will on us in this manner as I am sure this sort of behavior / action was never in the agreement we took on with the licence for 7, well at least not known to me and I am guessing a good many other people.

I have a mind to reinstall just for the hell of it now as much as I do not relish the thought. Personally I think Microsoft is going to the pack and the 10 I have on the C: drive clone at my place on the old Sandy Bridge will be swapped out for the original 7 install drive. I just thank my lucky stars I had the forethought to clone the original 7 to a spare SSD to try
