What updates to install?

I've had to reinstall W7 & find there are 215 updates waiting. Do I install all or just some?

I installed 10 & found my Flight Sim refused to work until I got rid of it HELP! Please!

Welcome to the Seven Forums

I just did a reinstall for my uncle and I had over 200 updates the first time and then more came later after checking again.

I did them all at one time and it worked fine for me.

Sometimes your ram limits the updates that are able to install at one time. You may receive an out of memory error, (I have on repair and fresh installs). Some updates will install, some will fail & be offered again to install. Some fail because of timing, some updates need to be installed before others. Currently there are over 200 updates for win7 install.

You should install all needed Windows 7 Updates before you install program like Flight Sim.

Things to be done before installing programs.
1. Install Windows 7
2. Activate Windows 7
3. Install all needed Windows 7 Updates.
4. Install MSE (can be changed at a later time) if desired.

In my opinion these things should be done before worrying about other programs you want to install.

Their will be over 200 Windows 7 Updates and it will probably take a very long time in most cases. I have seen threads that have got all the updates in 5 or 6 hours and some threads up to 48 hours and everything in between.

Layback Bear,
I agree; updates and then apps... However:

I think that the OP meant to say:
"I installed Windows 10 & found my Flight Sim refused to work until I got rid of it HELP!"

I don't think that the OP was saying:
"I installed 10 updates & found my Flight Sim refused to work until I got rid of it them HELP!"

But - I'm not positive what the OP was saying :-(

The OP might be interested in this thread:

FYI= Flight sim is on Drive F & was already installed. W7 is on C, & data storage is on H, so your advice doesn't apply.

Once again my crystal ball has failed me.
I had no idea where you had games installed.

That being said, without Windows Updates installed you might not have all the needed
.net Framework installed for Flight Sim or it's drivers.

I'm under the belief that most install their games on the C partition With Windows 7.

Just my thoughts with a broken crystal ball.

It should be possible to tell Windows Update (via the registry) that you don't want W10 - then you can let updates be applied - unless you fear the telemetry.

Are you saying that the Flight sim program does not use the registry? If it does, then you would probably need to install it again - after an OS install.

Well, I appreciate all help with any, problem so thanks for posting Layback Bear

I asked about installing 200+ updates because a few weeks ago my FS9 stopped working here & on my Vista machine. Surfing sim forums led me to find the cause was KB3086255. I've 'hidden' this update now so I hope I never got it back. More surfing tells me quite a few updates have bugs & cause problems, so I'm wary of updates.

I've not put FS9 in the default place on C for years & usually have a drive dedicated to the sim. I'm told the OS will find it easier to find fs9.exe this way. The default is C/programme files (x86)/FS9. I just do C/FS9. It works!

I hope you know a decent crystal repairer!

FS9 is in the registry....it has to be or it wouldn't work. It stopped working because of UPDATE KB3086255. BTW I stopped W10 messages by clicking on the message & telling it to buzz off, & it did.
