    Corrupted files

Well, I am trying to help a friend of mine and I am over my head. He asked me to do his updates on his laptop since he is working long hours so I said sure. That was a mistake as it takes forever for the updates to download. 3 updates took 1.1hours to download so off I went searching around here and found that I should run sfc /scannow. So I did and I got a message that some files are corrupted and that they could not be fixed.

Went to the Microsoft website and found Mr. Fixit for slow downloads for updates to Windows 7 and it did fix some items, but I got one error that could not be fixed.

I then checked the CBS log (as it said to) and I have no idea what I am reading. But at the bottom I do see three files that say are corrupted. Did a search and nothing is making sense to me so here I am.

Can someone help me with this? I do have a copy of the CBS log if someone wants to see it.

His system is a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit which he has another one along with several of mine; in case we want to copy some "good" files over. Thanks and I look forward to working with someone on this.

I am assuming I did something wrong here since no one answered so in the next couple of days I will hopefully get my hands on my friends computer, clear out the CBS log, rerun the scan and get a newer fresh copy. I'll get pictures of the scan as well, maybe that will help out for some help.

Edit: I ran in to my first issue. Here is the attachment pic. How do I find out or stop what's using the CBS log?

Nothing wrong - apart from a shortage of personnel able to assist

Here's the important bits from the SFC scan

There appear to be some background problems with the system being confused as to whether SP1 is installed or not - which I don't think is related to the above errors.

I'll post a fix for these when I can get the time.

Thank you NoelDP. The system has an SSD in it and it was running sluggish. Another reason that prompted me to look at my friends system. So I did some driver updates and not it seems better, but I still get the error in the command prompt.

Again, thank you for your response.

    I've uploaded a file - ap4aa.zip - to my OneDrive at Noel's OneDrive
    Please download and save it.

Right-click on the saved file and select Extract all...
Change the target to C:\ and click on Extract
Close all windows (it would be a good idea to print these instructions!)

Now reboot to the Repair Environment - as soon as the machine restarts, start tapping F8 - this should bring up the Advanced Boot Menu, at the top of which should be the option 'Repair my Computer'
    Pick that
You'll have to log in with your username and password.

Pick the option to use a Command Prompt
    At the prompt type
    DIR C:\ap4aa
hit the enter key - if you get a 'Not Found' error try
    DIR D:\ap4aa
    or
    DIR E:\ap4aa

The drive letter in use when you find the folder will need to be substituted (for<drive>) into the following command...

    XCOPY <drive>:\ap4aa <drive>:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h

    (e.g. XCOPY P:\wfire P:\windows\winsxs /y /i /s /v /h )

run the command (it should take almost no time) and when the prompt returns, type
    EXIT
and hit the Enter key to exit Command Prompt - reboot to Normal Mode Windows.

Now run SFC /SCANNOW in an Elevated Command Prompt
then reboot and upload the new CBS.log file to your reply

OK, did the copy and all seems well. I was able to run the sfc scannow.

Here is the latest CBS log. See what you think.
