Win 10 Nagware/Telemetry via WU - Win7 Enterprise version immune?

I have been reading reams of info on the recent moves by Microsoft to force/fool/trick users into moving to Windows 10 (the GWX debacle) and the mysterious nature of many recent Windows updates - that in reality are merely setups (and data gathering) updates designed to compromise a clean tidy Windows 7 Home or Pro install.

I have tried to keep up on the latest info to combat the issue (Hiding Windows updates, killing telemetry tracking, removing GWX stuff etc) but it seems like a losing battle as it seems every month MS ramps up more crap by changing optional updates to Recommended and finding new way to force a Win 10 setup into our lives.

One idea that I am kicking around is testing my MSDN clout and trying Win 7 Enterprise on my desktop. Does anyone know if Is this version of Windows is immune to all the above crap?

And don't get me wrong - I have Win 10 on one machine for now and the verdict is still out whether to keep it or not - but we are Windows 7 for the forseeable and do not want anything to do with Win 10 on our other 4 machines at this time.

Thoughts?

VP

As long as you read what each update does you`ll be fine, don`t like the update, just hide it. Simple.

There`s nothing else we can do.

Understood. But the question about the Enterprise version is what I am more interested in. Would rather have a version of Windows 7 that is not being bombarded by this crap and not have to worry about the potential of installing things that are compromising the install.

Having to check/review/hide every update for 6 machines every time will get a tad annoying after a while.

Hi Vocalpoint & welcome to sevenforums.

Not sure 'bout Enterprise. Maintain a list of telemetry updates & batch file to remove them. I attached the batch file if you wish to run it. double-click or right-click choose> open. If you want to see the KB's right-click choose>edit. It will open in notepad.

Telemetry for Windows 7...
I've seen Cliff's posting in Windows 8 forum, about how to avoid telemetry in Windows. After checking my Windows 8.1, there were three of the patches for telemetry/upgrade preparation installed from the list. A quick check on Windows 7 showed six of the patches installed, all marked as "important"....
