Optional update for display

Hi, I recently bought new monitor AOC 2460 and today saw among the optional updates the following AOCision Peripherals, Inc.-Display-AOC 2406. What is it and should I install it?

Hi lonka & welcome to sevenforums.

Your monitor should still be under warranty.

You can call customer service at 1-888-662-9888 us.aoc.com/

I would check with them, If they have an update for your monitor, & you decide to update, I would download & install it from their website.

Then if you get the same optional KB update from M$ you could Hide Update.

Ok, thanks, I would call the customer service here in Israel as it is where I bought it. Still, I think it is not worth it, I hided it without installing.

I always prefer to use manufacturer drivers, M$ can mess up their own products enough, they don't need to extend it.!

Well ultimately I had a second thought and did install it, but did not understand what it did as I do not see any differences either good or bad

Monitor driver updates - in common with other driver updates - are actually produced by the chip manufacturers.
The problem arises when OEMs modify the circuitry - and this can affect drivers, which then have to be specifically written for the modified circuits. They may still be identified as the base hardware to Windows, but the associated base driver may not work correctly. It is this which causes the apparent flakiness of drivers from Windows Update.

Detection has improved over the years, but there are still errors.

It's always better to get the drivers from the hardware manufacturer's site - if for no other reason than that they usually have more recent versions of the driver than Windows Update will. Such drivers will also often have a higher level of functionality that the base drivers (although this can be a mixed blessing at times!)

Actually as far as I remember I never installed the display drivers before, only the graphic card's drivers which naturally I always download from the manufacturer's (in my case Nvidia) site.

Thanks for chiming in with the clarification NoelDP.
Drivers install when monitor setup runs.
