Cannot update
I just installed a replacement hard drive and used the disk that came with the desktop. The disk has on the OS 7 Pro with SP1. This was a refurbished desktop. When trying to do updates it will search forever. let it run overnight and still searching in the morning. I tried these prior to posting:
Update troubleshooter
Windows update agent
kb3102810
kb947821 Note: when I do this it says it can only run one instance of this and that's as far as I get.
sfc /scannow returned all is ok.
access denied for C:\Windows|Logs Note that I am administrator
Have not seen any error codes
Background Intelligent Transfer Service and Windows update is enabled in services.
Not sure what to do. I did a clean install with the disk. Being the disk came from a refurbisher, I wondered if the product key would be ok with an ISO download? The disk says: Licensed for use with the Registered Refurbisher Program. www.microsoft.com/registeredrefurb
Any ideas as to what to try?
UPDATE: Not sure what happened but I went to shut down and leave the house it started updating. :) No updates were showing in the update dialog box. No shield on the shutdown button. I just don't know. Everything seems OK now. Go figure.
