Microsoft XML Updates

Hello all..I would like a little information about the following, if I may..This afternoon I turned on my computer to be welcomed with 2 Updates. One being KB954430 Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based Systems & KB973688 Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2 for x64-based System.

What are those Updates for exactly? And also are they completely necessary to install?

Thank you.

Carl.

I discovered this thread, as it's something similar to my own. I too have installed Microsoft Flight Sim. Steam Edition.

The game that I installed yesterday (Flight Sim) was no more then a few pennies really..So in all..I think I will uninstall it, and ignore the updates.
