I have gone for the 64-bit one, this is what is running on the laptop; Download Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3112343) from Official Microsoft Download Center. With it being a 24 to 48 hour run, will probably start it tomorow morning and keep it running. Could do with it being a 24 hour run, as I can't stand it when you see 'Searching For Updates' going over the screen, least with a PC can just turn the monitor off. I would never be sure of leaving of this laptop, :). I checked the services.msc too and it's set to automatic (delayed). Will keep you posted.

Managed to install the KB3112343 and have now asked to look for Windows Updates. Started that at roughly 13:00 so will probably leave until 10 or 11 O'clock tonight as I am concerned if I am burn the battery / fan out - it's quite a noisy laptop at best. Will post on here any updates.

Interesting, I might have to give that a go too. I used to do the old remove the battery trick all the time on my old laptop. For now, I am going let this one run for 9 - 10 hours - first then maybe give that a go, thanks.

Thanks UsernameIssues for help with this, just checked and it appears that the Windows Updates is back to normal functional use; at the moment just downloading two optional updates and installing Internet Explorer 11 - fingers crossed :)

Windows Updates is showing a couple of optional updates and there appears to a download for Internet Explorer that keeps failing. The error code: 9C57. I think I will be posting this as a separate issue and have got Dad on to using Firefox for now and see how he goes on.
