    Windows update stuck

I've been working on a client's computer for a while, and none of these problems apparently started before Microsoft Office (multiple versions) were installed. Among other, now-resolved issues, is the problem with Windows Update. I've uninstalled and removed all traces of Microsoft office, but none of it has helped.

Windows update will continue on forever (yes I left it on overnight and it's STILL searching). I've been working on this for a couple of days and am honestly out of ideas, even after scouring the web. I have several log files linked below, including the CBS log which the error seems to point to. Most specifically:
Handler FATAL: UH: 0x80070490: EvaluateApplicability failed in CCbs::EvaluateApplicability

    Things I've tried:
System Restore (not many points available, but tried nonetheless)
sfc scannow (resolves some issues but reports that it's unable to repair all detected issues)
Windows Startup Repair (with a new windows disc)
Safe Mode (with the steps above)
Of course virus and malware scan
and a host of other stuff that I can't remember right now (I need my coffee)

If you have ANY suggestions, let me know. For reference, it's an old Lenovo Thinkpad x200 Tablet with Windows 7 32bit installed. I'd REALLY rather avoid formatting, so please don't suggest it. EVERYTHING else is working great, except the windows update. I see no other problems with the machine at this point.

(scroll to the bottom for yesterday evening's date and time. Some of the issues above that point have been resolved)

Not very current in regards to the others, but attached nonetheless
