Many software uses it. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.NET_Framework you prob have 3.5 and 4.0-4.5 on your system at the moment, they are different do not remove one and leave the other you want both. Hope this answers your question.

4.6.1 downloaded,
but 3.5.1 and 4.5.2 failed.
do they need to be reinstalled?

It looks like some updates failed on the first attempt, and then succeeded on the next attempt, such as KB3127220.
When you check for updates now, do you get any updates offered ?
If they aren't re-offered, i think you are ok.
