Hi Brian,
Can you update now?
Not exactly sure what else Avast might have corrupted, but it certainly was the root cause.
surprised that the MS techs,
a) didnt advise you to uninstall it
b) or check the cbs log.
as they work to a basic script!.
If the updates are still failing, i will need to look at a new CBS log and the SURT report, you should be able to get it now.
Roy
sf/scannow still not working and still getting the 80070002 update error when I run updates.

Unfortunately it didn't clear them.
Gonna have to go another route
can you go
C > windows > winsxs > then scroll to amd64_avast, post a screenshot, it should be there.
Roy
Just so you know, those 3 files you asked me to run failed with a catastrophic failure. I know that's not on here anymore, was in the email and assuming you edited it out from the post.
Hi Brian,
My BAD, lookin at to many threads me old brains going.
please reinstall them from the MS standalone site, they will say if there allready installed
(kb3033929,kb2515325,kb2809900)
REBOOT
Now im back on the right page.
The folder your in belongs to MS not Avast, they shouldn't really put anything in there.
SO we need to remove them
please right click on them select remove
You may receive Access denied, if so then open the folder and on in each file shown perform the right click delete operation again, once thats done you should be able to delete the main folder.
I dont really want to go the Take Ownership route, but if we have to.
Roy
Hi Roy, kb3033929 did install but the other 2 came up not applicable to my computer. I did delete the 2 Avast files, had to take ownership but I've done that before getting files from an old XP drive. But, after reboot I'm still getting the same 80070002 error in updates.
