Activating Windows 10 (upgraded Windows 7) on another motherboard

So we have 2 pcs in our household, we took the windows 10 upgrade offer, sadly 10 did not work with my motherboard as its no longer supported with drivers by intell.

So i decided to get an upgrade package (new motherboard, processor and ram) and while i was at it, i got one for my wife too.

Now as i understand it, our "reserved" windows 10's are bound to the old hardware.

Is there any way to unbind it and bind it to the new hardware, or are we forced to stay with 7 for now?

You may have trouble even if you want to stay with 7.

Is your Windows 7 license an "OEM" or "retail" version?

OEM licenses are typically restricted to the original motherboard. At times, Microsoft will cut you some slack, but that may be chancy. Retail licenses have no such restriction.

If your Win 7 is OEM, then I think your free upgrade to 10 becomes OEM by default. If your Win 7 is retail, the free upgrade to 10 is likewise treated as retail and could be moved to a new motherboard.
