Update Failure and Reboot Requests

Short version of long story;
Did the WIN10 upgrade which failed. Microsoft chat, as well as DELL, recommended I go back to Win7 with the revert option, which I did. Everything works BUT, now, I get a pop-up telling me to reboot to finish installation of updates. I have literally rebooted 36 times in a row and the pop-up comes back. I ran the update troubleshooter and it found corrupt files and registry errors. Still does it after that fix. Ran Microsoft "fix-it" for the updater and no luck.

The update screen shows Last Update = Never. Most recent check for updates = never.
The installed updates screen shows dozens of updates and are up to date.

Something is not "set" somewhere as the PC thinks it needs rebooted to finish updates. I hate the thought of a total install of WIN7 or can I do some kind of overlay?

Hi Rboltz,
Might be a pain but with having both corrupt files and Registry Errors its a big problem, do you still have the Dell recovery partition available, or a set of repair disks, id go for either option.
(dell obviousially didn't offer you a set of 7/10 discs!)

Well i shut off automatic updates and the pop-ups stopped but the warning is still there. Of course, the PC will no longer search for updates. Someplace there is a flag not set properly or a parameter not right, probably in the registry. I can edit the registry but have no idea where to look or if it's even there.

One disk came with the Dell and that's a system disk. Unfortunately, all my restore points also went away with the failed upgrade. Everything else was installed, including office pro. Don't know how you reinstall office without the disks. all that came was the authorization key on a card.

Do you want to go to W10, if so follow this link from our sister W10 site

For your Office install just go to MS download site install the version you have the key for and input it when requested.
