Really basic question about Microsoft Security Essentials

I am confused which is easily done when it comes to techy type stuff.

Please can someone tell me if I have to update MSE using the optional updates offered in Window Updates each time or does MSE do it itself so I can ignore them please?

You dont have to do anything they will install automatically, they are not classified as optional.
