    Is my Windows Pro genuine?

    HI:

I bought a new Dell desktop with Windows 7 Pro two weeks ago from the big online seller (Fulfilled by). I could not find the COA Key anywhere on or inside the computer or in any of the boxes it came in. There is a color shifting blue Windows Pro label on the computer.

When I activated it, it never asked for the key, but it did say "Activated". On the computer>properties page it says Activated. All updates have installed with no warnings.

From reading some of the posts here, I'm concerned that I might have a counterfeit Windows. Here's the MGAD:

(I have not activated Office and will probably uninstall it.)

Searching online, I found how to get the key from the registry and translate it into human. But a footnote says "This may be the manufacturer's key and not your personal one".

Is this Windows genuine, licensed, and activated?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks very much.

I Believe that to be a refurbished model.
There is nothing wrong with the Mgadiag, apart from the fact that its not activated, run Kb971033, to do so.
The key is for all Dell W7 pro machines, the slic table is correct, and there are no indications showing of a hack

The shifting MS logo refers to W8, which this model was shipped with, hence my first line.
as a secondary check if you go to Dells website and input the serial no: you should get all the details.

Thanks ICIT; that's how I found my key number. Haven't tried the Windows Genuine link yet.

Thanks very much torchwood. I checked and didn't have Kb971033 among the 900MB of updates I downloaded, so I dl'ed it and re-ran the Mgadiag:

    Hi JJ,
    No dont worry about KB971033,
That error is a catch all type.
    please run the following

    Recreate the Licensing Store

    1) Click Start button.
    2) Type: CMD.exe into the 'Search programs and files' field
    3) Right-Click on CMD.exe and select Run as Administrator
    4) Type: net stop sppsvc (It may ask you if you are sure, select yes)
Note: the Software Protection service may not be running, this is ok.
    5) Type: cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform
    6) Type: rename tokens.dat tokens.bar
    7) Type: cd %windir%\system32
    8) Type: net start sppsvc

    hopefully that should activate.

Yes jj once you get it sorted tis is a really useful tutorial to get the machine running efficiently and a tad faster (my bible) and if you do not mind losing a little of the "bling" like transparency which personally I find unnecessary Optimize Windows 7

Thanks very much, Roy. I'll try this in a few minutes, but not knowing what a tokens.dat file was, I googled it and the first hit was How to rebuild tokens.dat file:

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2736303

and says to type in elevated command:

    net stop sppsvc

    cd %windir%\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\SoftwareProtectionPlatform

    ren tokens.dat tokens.bar

    net start sppsvc

    cscript.exe %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /rilc

This is the same as your directions, except for that last command. Do I need that last command, cscript.exe %windir%\system32\slmgr.vbs /rilc?
