I wouldn't expect to see a 450 mb partition as part of a Win 7 install. Maybe that's part of an aborted Win 10 upgrade? I don't know.

Nor do I know why you are not allowed to delete any partition you see when you come to the "where do you want to install Windows screen".

If you want to do a clean install of Windows 7 and have backed up or don't care about anything else on the hard drive, you can certainly go to Diskpart by hitting shift F10 right after booting from your install disc when you come to the language screen. Diskpart has a "clean" command that will wipe out any partitions on the disk.

If that's what you want to do.

    OK, I'm back.

    All my data is there.
I went into Admin Tools and allocated and simple volumed the 451MB partition assigning it a drive letter with a quick format. I don't mind I guess.
I have done clean in stalls before but I may have botched it and got to where I am now.

So..... Now I want to update Win7 as far as possible and kill the Win10 possible upgrade.

Can you give me the work flow?

    Thanks

I'm not entirely clear on where you are right now.

IF, I say IF, you now have a Windows 7 install that appears to be OK and you want to update Windows 7 and defeat Windows 10, I would:

Go to Windows Update Control Panel and uncheck all boxes except "allow all users......". Set "important updates" to "Check for updates, but let me......."

Download, install, and configure either GWX Control Panel Monitor or Never 10, both of which are designed to block Windows 10 updates.

Connect to Windows Update and view whatever "important updates" it offers you. Don't bother with "optional" updates for now.

At this point, you could do one or the other of the following:

1: accept all "important updates" and trust that Never 10 or GXW Control Panel will protect you from any Windows 10 related items in the important updates list. Select maybe 10 or 20 at a time and let Windows Update download and install them, batch by batch. That might take a few hours or a day or more, depending on how many and how cooperative Windows Update is at the moment.

    or

2: Pay attention to the KB numbers and compare them to any of the several lists of KBs to avoid found on this forum. Make sure not to select any on the list. The avoid lists usually include both Windows 10 related KBs and telemetry related KBs. The lists aren't foolproof and one list varies from another. Download and install batches of the KBs not on the list, which might take hours or a day or more, depending on how many.

After that's done, don't assume Never 10 or GWX Control Panel will protect you, but hope it helps. Continue to be careful with any new updates offered and be wary, particularly of any that aren't related to security.

Hope that the "avoid Windows 10" issue goes away after July 29, when the "free upgrade" expires.

That's what I'd do. I recently installed 7 and used choice 2 above.

There's really only about 10 updates I avoid relating to win-10
    KB2952664
    KB2999226
    KB3035583
    KB3075249
    KB3013531
    KB3021917
    KB3068708
    KB3080149
    KB3123862
    KB3150513
There is also this one too but it is unrelated to 10 just had some wild booting affects or should I say not booting affects :)

You guys are great and thank you, but I guess one has to pay to play because I am finding having to read pages and pages of threads with links to threads than have links to threads with pages and pages to read a bit overwhelming.

There is no magic bullet with a registry hack that will stop the Win10 prompts?

There is however is sounds to me like windows 10 is already installed. If that is the case you can agree to the terms, get your data off, and then reinstall 7. That's all I know to tell you to do. After that you can follow this tutorial to disable the nag/prompt. Upgrade to Windows 10 Update - Enable or Disable in Windows 7 or 8.1 - Windows 10 Forums You can ask for help on that forum to confirm that yes 10 is installed and here is what to do to reverse it. You can also check out this tutorial. Windows 10 - Go Back to Previous Windows - Windows 10 Forums
