New Updates Are Available Icon Keeps Reappearing

Hi, hope someone can help with this.

Earlier today the Windows Update icon appeared in the icon tray with the message 'New Updates are Available', but on checking Windows Update no new updates were displayed, only the usual Optional ones I've decided not to install.

I rebooted and the same thing happened shortly after the boot completed. I'm confused about what's
triggered this, especially as I have Update settings set to 'Check for updates but let me choose whether
    to download and install them'.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My laptop is a Dell Studio 17 running Windows 7 Premium 64 bit.

Thats MS getting rid of W10 updates.
Reset back to Download Reboot then back to your let me choose option.

    Hi torchwood,

    Thanks for the reply.

Just wanted to ask, after I've changed the settings to 'Download updates but let me choose whether to install them', will Windows Update try to download Windows 10 updates?

    For your info.

The Windows Updates had removed the Win 10 upgrade from my laptop.
I think there is one windows update on yesterday, 31 July 2016, i did let it update, without checking what updates.
Most probably that update is to remove Win 10, as it no longer available.

I would say that it will not be available thru windows update.

By using "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them"
Using this options have advantage &or disadvantages.
    I had this options before.
The disadvantage was which updates i need to run or not, which may be a bit troublesome.
Unless you fully understand &or for geeks.

    Now, i use the "..Recommended..."
So far, my windows 7 is very stable, without any problems, not like in the past, update the wrong &or unnecessary updates.
So i recommend you to select this "...Recommended..." option.

Hi Eric, thank you for the advice.

Hi torchwood, switching to Download updates, then back to Choose whether to install after a reboot seems to have fixed the issue. Thanks! :)
