Windows 7 hp 64bit (genuine) reverted to grace period, no activation

Hi. I bought Windows 7 64bit home edition on a disk with my new Novatech pc over a year ago, and it successfully activated. Until 30 days ago it ran fine. Then the Windows not genuine pop got going with a link for activating online. I used slmgr /dlv which showed that the computer thinks my Windows is in its 'grace period', on a countdown from 30 days to 0 (tomorrow!).

Any suggestion, anyone? Here's what did NOT work:

    Online activation (nothing happens)

    Phone activation

    Microsoft support - phoned them.
They talked me through a few things that did not work, then gave up.

    slui.exe, scannow, chkdsk

    Here is the diagnostics file:

    Code:

Hello and welcome adagrat first up mate I would not accept the response from Microsoft for any reason - unacceptable.

Now the Novatech did it have any system on it when you bought it and then you bought the OEM and put on the machine yourself ?? If it happened like that did you wipe the drive before you installed the new OEM?? or use a new drive??

Now in the info and unless I am terribly wrong the version you bought was a retail copy?? - 7, OEM_COA_NSLP which means it can or could be installed on any machine - only one at a time but it is reusable unlike the SLP OEM's which can only be installed once and the code stays tied to that board.

Hi, and thanks for the welcome. I bought the Windows 7 64bit (sp 1) from Novatech when I bought the PC, and loaded it myself. It is 'OEM_COA_NSLP', and on the disk it says 'intended for distribution with a new PC'.

Last night I tried another solution, activation using CMD. Now the popup is still popping up, but slmgr /dlv now reveals that the rearm count is at 0, and Computer - properties says it is activated.

So it is probably partially fixed, though I would feel happier if it was totally fixed, especially as it happened after a windows update. Though uninstalling the updates did not cure the problem.

Do you happen to know if a free-standing individual Windows 7 64 bit needs to have the SLIC table in the Bios, or is that for volume licensing only?

    Hi Adagrat,
for starters thats an old version of the tool, use this one please
    http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012

When Novatech supplied your system they SHOULD have also provided you with the Boxed W7 discs.
On the box woud have been your activation key.

What i do see is an Unlicenced Office install,
This will have its OWN key, which should have been input AFTER the OS install was validated.
Which is, i believe, causing the problem.
    Validate the Office install, or
Uninstall it and see if your comp re-activates
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971179

    please run/repost the MGA
    after validating/uninstalling Office.

The slmgr Rearm has allready been used 3 times, to "ignore" the non genuine, thats your lot.

NSLP (OEM system Builder in your case) keys DO NOT use/require the SLIC table.

Hi. We don't use Microsoft Office, so I probably just put it on the PC to start with to use while looking for an alternative. But Windows ran just fine for 17 months, after activation and with the Office sitting there unvalidated. I thought I had uninstalled Office from Programs and Features some weeks back, and maybe that is what set this problem off.

Thanks, I will try what you suggest and see if Windows Activation then works.

    Hi.
I found Microsoft Office (clearly I had not uninstalled it!), uninstalled it, and ran the more recent Diagnostic Tool. There is now a Validation Code where the previous diagnostic report had 0.

Adagrat mate if you want an office program that should not interfere with the Windows I have started using this after they refused to let me put my versions on new machines when I got rid of the oldies.
It is as good as the Windows product and I find it far easier to use LibreOffice Fresh | LibreOffice - Free Office Suite - Fun Project - Fantastic People and it's free

Now I am not that good with the MGA report Torchwood can answer better than I can.

    Hi Adagrat,

There are at least 3 error codes, suspect there are more, but not shown in the MGA.

improperly uninstalling Office is KNOWN for causing this type of error
(I have no doubt the install is genuine).

The EASY fix is a repair install, no loss of personal data.
    Repair Install

The longer route will involve multiple runs of various other tools and diagnostic programs.
i havn't got a problem with this but it could take some time.

Take your pick and let me know which way you want to go.

Less hassle for you and for me - I think I will go for the repair install, in a couple of days time, after dealing with a family crisis that is happening overseas! Although the popup is till popping up, and it still will not activate (using the legit tool results in a blank little popup), it says it is activated on Computer properties. The countdown is stopped at zero and no black screens so far.

    Thanks for all your help.
