I'll try it.

I'm using Chrome as my main browser.
I may or may not have uninstalled IE a while back, although i still have it in my start menu.

But the update i can't install is KB976932.

The update failure is being caused by the KB i mentioned, not the SP1 update.
IE8 is an integrated part of W7 and as such cannot/should not be uninstalled, turned off/updated yes
So we need to know how you uninstalled it.

If we need to re-install it the easiest way, as you have w7 discs, is to perform a repair install

Ah i see!

I don't have any discs for it, and no earlier backups i'm afraid
Would updating the OS to Windows 10 solve this issue?

Edit: I'll try sorting out a bootable USB flash drive when i get home from work.

Updating to 10, (if it lets you), would clear the problem, as its a completely fresh/new OS.
run this copy/paste the output,
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=52012
if its OK, i'll get you a download link

W7 Ultimate 64bit OS. BASE language please ??? swedish/english etc
