Is there any way I can have Windows Update skip updating a file?
long story short, i done goofed and denied all permissions on wmpshare.exe with my antivirus, and any updates that try to modify said file are obviously met with failure. i've just ignored updates that do this for the most part (since they were WMP-specific patches, and i don't use WMP anymore anyway), but now these recent "monthly rollup" updates are failing, all because of wmpshare.exe having no permissions.
after running around in circles in Google, other than a clean install (which i think is overkill for me personally), the only other option i know of is a restore point, and my little mistake was years ago, so that's not really an option for me.
is there any way i can get Windows Update to continue updating in spite of an erroneous file? i'd like it to skip over wmpshare.exe if possible.
EDIT: well, i guess whatever the problem was with my antivirus forgetting to reset permissions, COMODO went and fixed it (but forgot to tell me about the fix )
was going to close/delete the thread, but i'd like to know the answer to this question anyway just in case i make another dumb mistake with my antivirus, but now i don't need the answer as urgently :)
